Process

The Judicial Nominating Commission is composed of:

A) non-voting chairperson who is a current Kansas Supreme Court Justice and is chosen by the Chief Justice. The current chair is Justice Evelyn Z. Wilson.

B) Seven non-lawyers, each appointed by one of the seven county commissioners:

  • Doug Brownlee
  • Mike Czinege
  • James Griffith
  • Josie B. Herrera
  • Stephene A. Moore
  • Annabeth Surbaugh
  • Samuel H. Turner Sr.

    • C) Seven lawyers, each elected by a vote of all Kansas-licensed lawyers residing in Johnson County:

  • Thomas J. Bath Jr.
  • Rick G. Guinn
  • Laura McConwell
  • Judge Kevin Moriarty
  • Greg L. Musil
  • Judge Thomas Kelly Ryan
  • Stephen R. Tatum

    • The 14 voting members of the board serve 4-year terms and may continue consecutive terms if so appointed or elected.
