The names of three local attorneys have been forwarded to Governor Sebelius for consideration for the current judicial opening in Johnson County. The opening is due to the retirement of Judge John Anderson, II. The nominees are:

Robert J. Bjerg, Lake Quivira. Mr. Bjerg has a private law practice in Leawood.

Neil Foth, Lake Quivira. Mr. Foth is a partner in the firm of Foth & Orrick, Overland Park.

G. Gordon Atcheson, Overland Park. Mr. Atcheson has a private law practice in Westwood.

Interviews were held with the eleven applicants on December 8, 2008 at the Johnson County Administration Building. Interviews were open to the public. The Governor will have 30 days to select from the three names submitted.

The 10th Judicial District Judicial Nominating Commission is made up of 14 members. Seven are attorneys elected by the Kansas licensed attorneys residing in the district, and 7 are non-lawyers appointed by the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners. The Nominating Commission welcomes and encourages public input into this important process. Comments can be submitted in writing to the Commission Secretary, Hon. In addition, all meetings of the Commission are open to the public, with an opportunity for public comment.
